Laughing around a campfire with your friends, canoeing across beautiful Lake Cuyamaca, eating sticky, gooey s'mores and watching shooting stars at night are just some of the wonderful memories from Camp Wolahi.
Fun included archery, crafts, hiking, swimming and overnights out under the stars. Separate facilities were provided for boys and girls, with groups of 6 to 10 campers bunking with counselors in rustic cabins, teepees, or under the stars. |
With
the total destruction of the camp in the Cedar Fire of October 2003 all that remained were 3 chimneys (2 from the lodge and 1 from Kuta), the walls of the Adirondacks and the 4 walls of Old Stony. We are very fortunate that the Mennonite Church brought in work crews from all over the country and Canada to help clean out the debris.
The Spirit of Wolahi lives - as the soft wind blows, the sounds of laughing campers can almost be heard in the quiet of Wolahi. The stark reality of tall blackened trees against the horizon is contrasted by the green of new growth along the hillsides. |
